Inspection During Application

The coatings inspector’s (CI’s) role during application is to observe, record and report key data during substrate preparation or assembly. Correct surface preparation and cleanliness are key to successful coatings projects as 80% of coating failures can be directly attributed to poor preparation and cleanliness.
The second part of the CI’s function here is to ensure that the contractor adheres to the Specification; that the paint supplier has delivered the correct materials; and that all prescribed tests are undertaken and meet expected control plans.
Post-application, the CI will review the entire coated substrate for defects and, together with the owner’s engineering team, decide on the appropriate remedial action where necessary through observation, recording and reporting.
